I went looking for the weird, and Captain, I found it. Some of it is absolutely pointless, but entertaining nonetheless. So take a little trip with MSN Update as we explore (say this part with a deep voice and lots of echo) the
weird side of the Web.
Just last week I was told about a site called the "Hamster Dance." It's totally pointless, as far as I can tell. See for yourself (then, as with all the links in this article, come on back here using the back button in
your browser): http://www.hamsterdance.com/
Someone actually bought a domain name and subscribed to a virtual domain hosting service, to create a one-page site for that. Not only is it mesmerizing and addictive, but it's laugh-out-loud funny!
Unusual Internet art can be great too. One Web site that is an exhibition of what you can do with a Web page (and a lot of time) is the SuperBad Web site. Another site focuses on
an urban theme and can be poetic at times: Ghost City.
Of course, there's also regular art posted on the Internet. One I found quite intriguing was the Lens Cap Photography gallery. Who needs the local museum of
contemporary art when you've got sites like this?
Another great thing about the Internet is the fact that it allows people to speak their mind, however strange it might be. One brilliant piece of randomness was found on a manifesto newsgroup. It's the Lupus
Yonderboy Manifesto. Can somebody call a shrink, please?
That brings me back to my point about pointlessness. Some of the most interesting stuff on the Web really is completely useless. For a useless experience, don't
click here. And of course, there's an entire page of links that don't work.
You might check out How to Keep an Idiot Busy, or the official downloadable nothing file too for
some mindless fun.
Oh, and if you've ever wondered – there is a page with the entire set of lyrics to 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall, just in case you forget
them easily. Those of you who easily forget lyrics, or simply anything you mean to say, and fill in the holes with a good fix-all "yadda yadda yadda" will love the Yadda
Yadda Yadda Web site.
To say the least, there's a lot of strange, cryptic, useless, and absurd stuff out there on the Web. Yeah, it's great we can get so much done on the Web, and learn so many things. But it's also great we can just veg out in our
chairs and click away the entire day.
